Updated: after finally reaching someone at Counter my missing order prices were refunded. We enjoyed our food so we will try again on another day to try the shakes. I ordered everything online. A less mobile family member of mine saw their ad and wanted to try their burgers. I offered to pick late lunch as this location is near my carpool loop. The blind ordering made that part easy. When I arrived I sent in my teenage daughter for the food as the parking was tight in the pick up area as California st is closed to through traffic ( I haven't been to this location so I didn't know.) . Once we got the food home and distributed food to each person, we realized we were missing items. No great way to fix that issue that I could imagine as it's a hike to our house and only a little loop out from our normal carpool. Everything was packaged nicely and labeled. My youngest found his plain burger to be to peppery. He's not my pickiest eater so I was surprised when I found lots of black pepper ( so much that it was rubbing off on his bun) We ordered 7 burgers and everyone else was delighted with their food choices.

I love the Counter! I've been to the Cupertino and Santana Row location but this was my first time trying this location. It was Sunday lunch time, and all the other restaurants surrounding this place seemed packed. The Counter was pretty much empty. I loved that we didn't have to wait long to be seated. Our server was very friendly but barely checked on us. The food took awhile to come out. I don't know. Maybe they're understaffed. It wasn't as good as the other locations but I wouldn't mind going here again. Parking can be difficult because it's in downtown Palo Alto.

Oh My Gawd! These fried onion rings (strings) are amazing. As the name implied, they are thinner than most onion rings. The thinner cut allows them to be totally crunchy insted of still damp inside. The breading also stays on the crunchy onion strings very nicely, not like some place's onions rings where you can literally separate the onion from the breading. These onion strings are DA BOMB!!! I don't know why more restaurants don't do it this way. I can eat these onion strings all day. The burger was pretty good. You can build your own burger so you can have exactly what you wanted on it. Even though the concept is similar to Five Guys, I have to say that due to their superior onion strings here, I'd rank The Counter above Five Guys. Another cook thing here is their specialty beverages. I tried the pomberry lemonade and that was really good. I especially liked the fact that it is sparkling. The blueberry didn't do much for me but the pomegranate mixed with the lemonade was incredible. I'm going to have to try to recreate this myself at home.

Great vegan options for a burger spot. Even their default mayo that they offer is vegan. I ordered the vegan veggie burger on the ciabatta with sautéed mushrooms, sprouts, mayo, BBQ sauce, roasted red peppers, and olives. It was quite good. The side of fries were perfectly salted. The ketchup on the tables doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in it. I would've given them 5 stars, except that every single dish and utensil they brought out was dirty and it kind of grossed me out. Maybe they need a new dishwasher.
